The Venetian Islands are the string of pearls between Miami and Miami Beach: Biscayne, San Marco, San Marino, Di Lido, Rivo Alto and Belle Isle, linked by the Venetian Causeway, a low 1926 bridge that is the oldest crossing of Biscayne Bay still in service. The islands are almost entirely residential - waterfront homes, a handful of condo towers on Belle Isle - which makes arrivals here less about hotels and more about house numbers, gate codes and which dock the groceries land on.
From MIA the islands are refreshingly close: about eleven miles, and because the Venetian Causeway begins just north of downtown, your driver can skip beach traffic altogether. SR-836 east, north a touch on Biscayne Boulevard, then onto the causeway at Fifteenth Street - twenty minutes on a good run, thirty-five when the drawbridge decides otherwise. Yes, it is a drawbridge; sailboats outrank sedans here, and the pause over the bay is not the worst view you will wait behind.
Each island has its own rhythm. Belle Isle, closest to the beach, puts you five minutes from Sunset Harbour dinners; Di Lido and Rivo Alto are the heart of the vacation-rental waterfront; San Marco and Biscayne Island sit nearest the mainland, with the downtown skyline filling the living room windows. Tell us the island and the street when you book and the driver arrives with the right approach - the causeway has exactly one lane in each direction, and U-turns are a spectator sport.
Airport fares start at $89 fixed, causeway toll included, with flight tracking and a name sign at MIA arrivals. Rentals here often mean groups: the Business SUV handles six passengers with a week of luggage, and the Sprinter takes a full house party in one pass - worth it, because the islands are the kind of address where you want to arrive all at once.
